Manners

Emily Posts Manners Digital World

Emily Posts Manners Digital World

Not many books make me happy to read and I go along with. But this book hits it spot on. I really think "Manners in a digital world" needs to be given to everyone. In fact I wish I had a case of these and as people break the common sense rules and show rudeness I could just hand these out to them.

The book really isn't something that I think most people who need it would go buy which is unfortunate. But it really is good. The chapter on mobile devices gives you questions to ask yourself and a checklist. Do things like asking, before making a call in public, ask yourself if it might be annoying to anyone else, if so step aside first.

There is a great chapter on facebook, man I wish everyone I knew would read this part. It talks about friends, but more importantly tagging of people. One of my biggest pet peeves is people tagging me in items that are unprofessional or "political." While I may or may not agree with the posts I have built a good career and I don't talk about things like that in public forums, make those types of comments, etc for a reason. So when people start tagging me in things like that it goes from them having fun to them risking my career or future. With many employers searching the interwebs I don't need my name tied to some of what it gets tied to.

This book really has so many valid points and I recommend everyone read it. Great info.

Excellent battery

Samsung Galaxy Battery EB575152LA GalaxyS

Compared to other wedge packs I've owned, this is just a little less -- well -- wedgy. The slightly shorter, wider, less tapered-at-the-front shape makes it more usable than other packs of the same listed volume, without being too clunky-looking on a nice road bike.

For emergencies I carry a road tube, CO2 inflator similar to Genuine Innovations Ultraflate Plus Tire Inflater, a spare CO2 cartridge, and the Topeak Hexus II Multi-tool which fits a full complement of tools including chain tool and tire irons into a sleek, compact package. Side pockets accommodate keys and protect my old-school flip-style cell phone. By unzipping the bottom expansion section, I can shove in my overstuffed wallet, then re-zip to un-expand and keep everything tidy. Expanded, there would be room for that chubby wallet, a larger cell phone, plus a couple of extra snack bars thrown in as well. Not quite as sleek, but not too bad either.

The velcro straps seem not to attack my shorts at all; I trimmed back the seatpost strap slightly so it wouldn't stick out.

Construction quality is good, and I like the reflective stripe and the blinky attachment.

As a bonus, the color selection is nice. We went all matchy-matchy with a red one to go with my bike and a green one for my wife's ride.

Everything I hope it would be

Rubberized Snap On Cover Octane Electromaster Neon

Rubberized Snap On Cover Octane Electromaster Neon

Bought a used Samsung Galaxy S3 with a cracked screen. Bought a screen remover kit and tried re-using the glue that was left over from removing the screen. I had problems where it the touch would not register on certain areas over the screen. I figured it was the unevenness of the screen because some parts had more glue left than other parts. I removed all the remaining glue (took a long time.. but found a trick where I would clump a ball of the glue and use that to lift the glue from other areas) and placed this adhesive sticker all around edges and available space.

Worked like a charm. This is not regular "tape". This is adhesive, very similar to the glue that was already in there if not the same exact thing. My touchscreen works 100% now. I tested all corners and the entire screen. There are no issues with the device not registering my finger anymore and it looks brand new now. I just firmly pressed the screen in and it worked.

If you are replacing your screen on your smartphone this is a MUST HAVE. I think to properly replace the screen, although more work, it is important to replace the adhesive.

Other thoughts: I may heat the screen to melt the adhesive a little to make a stronger bond but it may not be necessary because it seems pretty firmly placed. Also when you are working with this, I recommend using very fine tweezers. Product lists several phones but it should work with almost ANY smartphone. The 2mm is small enough for any of the edges.

The perfect size

Bushwhacker Laredo Black Triangle Reflective

Bushwhacker Laredo Black Triangle Reflective

I was initially looking for something to hold my cell phone while riding on my bike. I don't like keeping my phone too close to my body while using it, both on the chance that 1W of radio output next to my skin might cause unwanted long-term side effects and because I find my smart phone GPS tracks with lower error when it's not actually in my pocket. I initially bought a mount that let me actually see the phone while riding, but after a couple issues with things breaking decided that it wasn't that important to see the screen; having the phone safe and close at hand is the key feature.

This bag is just about the perfect size: I can hold my phone, wallet, keys and even a small drink. It also fits nicely on my mountain bike frame and doesn't get in the way of my water bottle holder (I've got three!)

Motorola Wall Charger Micro Cable

Motorola USB Charger and Cable

I have a bunch of Belkin 1A USB chargers that I noticed would not charge my Kindle Fire HD! I grabbed ALL of my USB chargers and went through each one to see which of them would work on the KFHD. The Samsung 1A charger from my Galaxy S3, the Motorola 0.85A charger from my Motorola Droid 2, and a 0.85A charger from a LG phone were the only ones that worked properly. My Galaxy S3 would charge fine from any of the Belkin chargers, but I needed a travel charger that I could bring with me. As a result I ordered another of the Motorola chargers from Amazon, and this works perfectly with the KFHD. It may not be a "fast charger", but it charges it up to 100% without any drama.

Overall: 5/5 stars, very very good price, works perfectly, great quality. May be only rated at 0.85A, but charges up my Kindle Fire HD 7" perfectly fine.
