SanDisk microSDHC Memory SDSDQM 032G B35 Packaging

I purchased a SanDisk 32 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDQM-032G nearly two months ago, for use in my VIZIO 8-Inch Tablet VTAB1008. At the same time, I also purchased a higher-priced PNY 32 GB microSDHC Card (P-SDU32G10-EFS2) which is supposed to be a 'class-10'. My benchmark results, however, show that the Sandisk class-4 card is actually faster - most of the time.

I used two sets of benchmark programs. One is called 'Flash Memory Toolkit v2.0', which measures the random read/write speed of files between 1MB and 15MB. The other one is called 'H2testw v1.4', which measures the sequential read/write speed using 1GB files. Here are my results: (see my uploaded charts in 'Customer Images' section for details)

- For smaller files (1-5MB), the Sandisk class-4 card gives an amazing write speed of 15-17MB/s, while the PNY 'class-10' card can only get 1-6MB/s

- For larger files (10-15MB), the Sandisk and PNY cards are about equal at around 8MB/s for write

- For huge files (1GB), the PNY did better at 9.5MB/S, while the Sandisk dropped to 5.5MB/s

- The read speeds of both cards are equally high at around 18MB/S (this number may be limited by the maximum speed of my card reader used)

What the above shows is that: When used in a typical digital camera (with file size 3-5MB), this Sandisk 'class-4' card is at least twice as fast as the PNY so-called 'class-10' card. But when used in a HD video camera (sequential writing of huge file), then the PNY card should perform better.

For a card to be marketed as a 'class-10', it must maintain a MINIMUM write speed of 10MB/s. So by this definition, the PNY card does not qualify since it cannot even achieve a MAXIMUM write speed of 10MB/s. This Sandisk card, on the other hand, exceeds the requirement of 'class-4' by a huge margin.

Sandisk seems to be the only flash memeory manufacturer that still gives honest, conservative speed class ratings. Any other manufacturers would have labeled this card a 'class-6' or even higher. As a matter of principle, I rather give my money to a company that promises less but delivers more, instead of to others that do the opposite. At the present cost of about 1 buck per GB, this is an unbeatable deal!

[Aside]
The capacity of this card, as reported by my computer, is only 29.7GB. Note that this is actually normal, because compter people define one 'Giga' as '2 to the power 30', which is 7.4% greater than 1 billion. So 29.7GB comes to just about 32 billion bytes, which is '32GB' according to marketing people.

I did think that the cover over the charging port was pushing out my charger, but I had been using my old one from my other phone and turns out the charger was just wore out and couldn't hold itself in.

It keeps dust out really well, and does a decent job at general splash protection as well.

Next time I get a phone, I will definitely be getting another Otterbox.

A Wild Ride

Dark Side Sunset Pointe ebook

Scott's book starts out with a bang. Literally. He hooks you in right away so the book seems at first to be a normal 'who done it' kind of mystery. Keep reading.

He introduces many characters (all interesting with their own quirks) who were involved with the murdered man. And it gets better! There's this old guy (not your typical hero character) who takes crime scene photos, who also happens to have psychic powers having to do with the crimes he's photographing. This is the most interesting twist of all.

Not your typical mystery. Not your typical police procedural. Not traditionally paranormal (no vampires, thank god). But an intriguing combo of all three. I'm not sure exactly how he did it, but he does it amazingly well.

Scott had me up late reading (which is rare!) to find out who did the dastardly deed. I found this one of the few books I've read recently that kept my interest to the very end. He also sets it up nicely for the next book in the series. I definitely think he's got a winner here!

Enlighten Optimus Premium Protector Protective

This product has been invaluable for me when traveling by air. My HTC evo phone uses battery power quickly, no matter how settings are optimized. This is especially true because I use it as a wireless hotspot when faced with no or limited internet connectivity.

On a typical trip, I have used most of my phone battery power waiting for the flight(s). By the time I arrive, I have no power left. (I know that alot of airports have made it easy to recharge in the terminal, but not the ones I use most.)

Jabra SPEAK 510 Internet Speakerphone

I have a consulting business which I am routinely on the phone for a couple of hours a day and I am always looking for a better speakerphone. With that being said, I use this device as a speakerphone and not as a speaker for listening to music. I have owned the previous Jabra 410 version which was good but the newer 510 I believe has better sound quality and connectivity. The 510 connects seamlessly with my iPhone via Bluetooth and I have had no problems with any interruptions. What is great about this speakerphone is the sound quality and clarity. When I call others, they always mention how it sounds like I'm not even on a speakerphone. The battery life on the speakerphone is also very good in that I have spoken for 2 days about 4 hours each day and didn't need to charge it. Finally the speakerphone has a very small footprint so it is very portable and comes with a soft neoprene case. Anyways, I would highly recommend this product if you own a small business or just need a speakerphone for daily use!

I debated purchasing this reader due to the price being almost 300% the other solutions out there. However, due to the great reviews I had to try it out. Besides, my case did not have any 3.5 slots, so instead of purchasing a 5.25 adapter, this was a perfect match.

The installation is fairly easy - although if you only have 1 USB3 header on your motherboard, make sure this will fit. It needs a bit of room, and if your USB3 header is surrounded by other components, it probably won't fit. My motherboard has 3 separate USB3 headers, so not an issue - although it would only fit in one of the 3, and is now covering up the other USB3 header.

In terms of performance, this thing is worth the premium cost. For example, I can now play a H.264 720P 60fps video directly off the memory card without any stutters at all. That wasn't even close to possible with my old reader. Haven't tried 1080P yet, but I'm pretty sure it would work just as well.

Like the description says, you must have USB3 headers on your motherboard to use this - or at least 2 internal/external USB3 ports.

LG has made a nice new slider cell phone and it seems they have corrected some of the bugs from some of the past models. Although not as smart as the full blown smart phones it does bring some of us basic phone users to a new threshold.

I mentioned in the video that you will need a cover for this phone due to it's very slick finish. Amazon carries one Body Glove model in two colors but as of this review there are no others manufactured.

Overall I highly recommend this phone if you do not want a phone that requires a data plan and you are not one who beats the crud out of your cell phones. The slider function seems well built but may not withstand the torture some put their phones through. I'm giving this phone five stars because for the type of phone it is I think it deserves it. However I am not comparing it the amazing smart phones that are on the market today. This LG Xpression is not in their class (or price range).

I set this up today for my elderly Mother who uses two hearing aids. This system is amazing! The pendant speaker phone is very lightweight, simple, and functional. The sound is great and it has a voice command feature that allows her to call any of the four speed dial numbers, not just the two emergency dial buttons. She can also use this function to check missed calls and return any she wishes to, as well as to check her answering machine. This means she can essentially use the pendant for most of her calls so she doesn't need all the handsets I thought she would. She feels safer and more confident having this with her all over the house and yard and she doesn't have to remember to have her cell phone with her, something she often forgot. Set up was quick and intuitive, but there are so many features you'll want to read the manual. It has backup batteries in the base so she can use it even when the power goes out, something that concerned me about the powered phones. All the phones have lights that blink when a call is coming in, but they are smaller and not as bright as I would have hoped. This may be offset by the fact that the volume of the ring can be turned up pretty high. I'm very pleased with this purchase!

I've been using this product for a little over a week. It's awesome. I've been getting over 2 days without recharging and with regular-to-heavy use.

In the past, I used Juice Defender to save battery life. When I first installed the battery, i turned it off to test the batter on it's own. I turned it back on after my last charge (in balanced mode) and it's currently showing that I've been unplugged for 38 hours and have 76% battery left. What a formidable combo. I'm guessing I'll get 3-4 days on a charge no problem.

As for the size, it does make the phone a lot bigger (duh). Thankfully, I was using an otterbox commuter case before I bought this, which is just about the same size. The new case is maybe 1-2mm thicker but it's maybe 1-2mm less wide. I personally like the thickness and flat sides of the new case, as it's easier to hold the phone without accidentally touching the screen.

The only concerns I have about this product are:

The weight: As you can imagine, this mega beast of a battery increases the overall weight of the phone. If I had to guess, I'd say it doubles the weight. Not a huge deal, but it will look odd if you carry this in your shirt pocket.

The Case. The case it came with fits snug, I'm just concerned about the longevity of the material and wondering if it would really protect my phone if I dropped it, especially given the added weight.

Overall, 5 stars.

Haven't had an oppportunity to test the NFC. Never did with the OEM battery either (thanks Verizon for blocking/disabling google wallet).
