Motorola 89422N H730 Bluetooth Headset
I've used a lot of different bluetooth headsets. I have had a bad habit of losing them (they're so small). I had been a devout user of the Motorola H17 for the past two years. In price to performance I thought it was the best bang for your buck. Recently though, I've had a hard time finding quality replacements and not refurbishments with crappy battery life. So, after ordering replacement after replacement and several returns I decided to try out the newer Motorola H730 due to the good reviews. Thankfully, I have not been disappointed.
Design/Comfort: 8/10
+ The H730 is a little large, heavier, and thus more conspicuous than the H17, but it's not as large or heavy as many of the Plantronics Voyager models I've used. Unlike the H17, the hook for the H730 fits comfortably around the ear and the device feels very snug. The speaker does not protrude and lies flat against your ear, but because it's made of plastic and there aren't any custom fitted gel pads for the device it can get uncomfortable at times during long rides (no worse than many over the ear headphones). Both, the H730 and H17 use a flip boom design to turn on the device and I'm big fan of that. Since, the H730 is noticeably larger than the H17 flipping the boom on the H730 to answer a call sometimes requires you to push the device slightly away from your face to open. It's not as seamless as it was using the H17 because the boom is longer. Either way, if you haven't used a flip boom headset before I think you'd prefer it.
Use: 9/10
+ Both, the H730 and H17 use a voice prompt notification system. It removes the guesswork and frustration of having to count blinking lights, beeps, or gauge whatever offish color the OEM uses to indicate the battery level. It tells you the level and which phone is connected whenever you flip the boom to turn on the device. It can get annoying at times if you're walking just outside the range for the connection and it keeps talking over and over. I've had this happen when paired with two devices that conflicted with each other. The range on the device is very good and in the top tier of BT headsets I've used. I easily achieve a range of about 20 feet in most circumstances. It can be more or less dependent on other external factors.
+ Noise cancellation is good, but not as good as it was for H17 because of the dual mic placement. I've rode with the down on the highway and once I rode with the top down inside a convertible going about 40MPH on non-windy day and I was still able to be understood using the H17. The H730 doesn't work as well with the windows rolled down if the wind is blowing too hard from a certain direction going 25MPH. The H730 doesn't do as good of a job blocking background noise, but it's still far better than those without any noise cancellation.
+ Battery life is where the H730 gets a huge nod over the H17 or any other bluetooth device I've ever used. The battery life is incredible for such a small device, thus small battery. The battery life is rated for up to 12 hours of talk time, and my bluetooth easily outlasts my phone for a change. The standby time is where it really excels. I expect that I get over 9 hours of actual talk time spread between 3-5 days throughout the week. and I only have to charge this once or twice a week talking on the phone about an hour a day. I've gone out of town for the good part of a week forgetting my BT and to close the boom (thus it was on the whole time). I came back and the battery was still on high and I had enough battery for several days.
Overall, I'd rate this a 9/10. For the price, I think it was an excellent purchase. Buyer beware of refurbished models, and I also learned from my mistakes of leaving my bluetooth in the car when it's very hot or cold and overcharging. These can dramatically affect performance and reduce the battery life. I just take it with me now and keep it in my pocket. This way it's easier to fall out and get lost so I have a reason to upgrade.
Hopefully, this review helps you. Thanks for reading.
I recently got this in replacement of another headset and it is excellent. I love the practicality of flipping it open to start it. It can also connect to two phones simultaneously. The sound quality is the best of any bluetooth headset I have ever owned. It pairs and connects beautifully with my Sprint EVO and my Apple iPHone.
BalasHapusHad the H720 and was pleased, but others ability to hear me stopped working. Got my money's worth. Decided to test a few non Motorola bluetooth headsets but not satisfied. Ordered the H730, had for a month, and like even better than H720. Battery lasts a long time. Took me a couple of times to get used to voice that comes on telling me my battery level when I first put it on but got used to it after hearing a couple of times. Best value and highest quality headset I have used. I have asked friends for feedback on quality of my voice on their end and they have said voice quality is outstanding. Highly recommend. I would/will buy another H730 if I lose this one or need to replace.
BalasHapusI have had many bluetooth headsets and have preferred the Motorola H series flip boom because it is a simple-to-use on/off switch. The H730 has some nice features over its predecessors including:
BalasHapus- Ability to pair with up to two phones simultaneously. If you have two phones like I do (personal and work supplied), the H730 does an excellent job of pairing both phones and allowing communication switching between the two including voice dial.
- Voice Status. The H730 provides voice status on battery level as well as phone connection; well done.
- Voice Quality. I've never understood why Bluetooth voice quality has never been great, but, the H730 is as good as I've experienced with a bluetooth headset. No complaints from callers on the other end.
- Battery Life. Very good as I have come to expect from the past H series devices. I have not completely drained the H730 nor received any battery warnings even after talking well over an hour.
Room for Improvement
- Once feature I miss from the older H series units is a color coded LED battery strength signal (green, yellow, and red). I have not experienced a low battery status, so the unit may provide a visual low battery signal and I'm unaware of it.
All in all, this is an excellent device and comes recommended based on my experience with many bluetooth headsets.
UPDATE: After a few years of experience with the H730, my opinion remains that it's a 5 Star product. I recently bought the newer Motorola HX550 thinking maybe it would be an upgrade; it's not. The H730 is better in every way including:
- wearing comfort,
- slipping on and off the ear,
- call quality for me wearing the H730,
- call quality for the person I am talking to (yes, I have compared both units with multiple people on the other end; the H730 was preferred each time), and
- button controls (the vol buttons are better on the HX550 but the large command button most used is superior on the H730).
I have had plenty of bluetooth headsets and the H730 as of March 2013 is still the best I have tried and I have tried units that cost nearly $200.
Arrived on time, and well protected in original factory packaging. I like the way that it speaks to me, tells me that it is on, and informs me of the battery capacity in a very clear voice. Most of my callers do not even know that I am on a bluetooth device. I have been wearing it for 3 days now, and the battery capacity is still high. Great job guys, Happy New Years.
BalasHapusThe Motorola H730 Bluetooth Headset is really amazing. The sound quality is outstanding, and it's so loud that generally I have it set to less than half the available volume. It has no "ear bud" that goes in your ear. Instead, it is simply a speaker that sits against your ear. It's perfect for those that wear hearing aids or that don't like objects in your ear. My father wears hearing aids and has never tried a Bluetooth headset that he could use without difficulty and that he could hear on until this unit. The battery life is so much that I have talked straight with no interruptions for 3+ hours and it still has "high" battery life. The light on the unit is small and not distracting. It's nearly unnoticeable.
BalasHapusI HIGHLY recommend this headset.

BalasHapusA review of all the features available on the Motorola H730 Bluetooth Headset.
The H730 is definitly the best of all the Motorola h series yet.
BalasHapusI have had most of them over the years and it seems that each time I upgrade due to my mis-placing the previous version I am pleased with the newer one....This one has a couple new aspects that make it especially better. An actual voice that tells you in english what the battery level is at as well as the pairing condition with each activation....No more interpreting beeps... and the dual microphones for noise reduction reduces most all outside noise.....
Great product with a great price on Amazon.....
Just got this item replacing a plantronics 520 I didn't like at all. Anyhow, the H730 connected effortlessly to my BB and the audio, receiving and sent is very very good. Plenty loud Easy to use and great price. Highly recommend
